Dismed Achieves Significant Efficiency and Competitive Advantage with TECSYS' Warehouse Management Software for Healthcare
MONTREAL, February 11, 2009—Dismed, a leading Montreal-based healthcare products distribution company, has adopted TECSYS' Warehouse Management System (WMS) enabling the Company to achieve improved labor efficiency, increased fill rate to over 99% and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Dismed was founded in 1979, and what was once a start-up company is now a leading contender in Eastern Canada's healthcare distribution market. The Company evolved significantly in the 1990s and has become a prominent supplier with an 80,000 square foot, first-class healthcare products distribution facility approved by Health Canada and products manufacturers.
"Operating in a unique and competitive market where delivery of the right product at the right time is vital, only companies willing to adapt to new approaches and provide new services to stay close to their customers, will stay ahead of the pack!" stated Serge Varin, National Vice President, Supply Chain for Dismed Inc. & Futuremed L.P. "It is essential for us to have over 99% fill rate and error-free deliveries, every time all the time to meet the stringent demands of quality and reliability of service to our customers."
Dismed keeps healthcare providers stocked with over 4,000 products ranging from lab and surgical supplies, to bandages and daily hygiene sourced from 200 suppliers across the globe. Some 2,500 customers including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, pharmacies and doctors rely on Dismed's daily deliveries. Dismed must be able to deliver an order in less than 48 hours anywhere in the Province. Naturally, this intense supply chain operation requires an exceptional warehouse management system.
To meet its distribution objectives, Dismed evaluated seven warehouse management software companies including some of the largest in the industry. After an extensive evaluation process, the Company opted in favour of TECSYS.
"It was clear to us that TECSYS was the leading contender, for a number of reasons; their experience and expertise in healthcare is key, but more important is their fit with our culture and philosophy," stated Varin.
Since the successful implementation of TECSYS' WMS, Dismed has been able to realize considerable savings in cost; inventory levels have dropped substantially, translating into impressive savings.
In addition, Dismed has been able to realize other significant benefits including:
- Improved inventory accuracy rate to over 99%
- Eliminated inventory errors and costly labor intensive processes
- The ability to effectively manage lots and expiry dates—vital in healthcare
- Increased warehouse facility without adding new resources
- Increased workforce productivity; reached an optimal level of efficiency and picking accuracy
- Increased competitiveness and customer satisfaction
