When accuracy protects patients
For LifeScience Logistics, inventory accuracy carries consequences well beyond the warehouse floor. The healthcare-focused 3PL manages temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, biotech products and medical supplies on behalf of manufacturers, across a network of validated facilities where every unit has to stay accurate, traceable and compliant at every handoff. Across that operation, LSL has sustained 99.97% inventory accuracy and a 99% fill rate for its healthcare customers.
The challenge: one shared platform, three compounding pressures
LifeScience Logistics runs a shared-utility model: a single, highly secure distribution infrastructure that multiple pharmaceutical, biotech and med-surg manufacturers rely on at once. That model creates three distinct pressures. Different manufacturers bring different storage, handling and reporting requirements onto the same shared platform. The products themselves are temperature-sensitive and regulated, spanning frozen (-30°C), refrigerated (2°C–8°C) and ambient (20°C–25°C) storage across multiple facilities, each requiring strict temperature and documentation control. And every product has to stay traceable under DSCSA serialization requirements, without slowing down day-to-day warehouse performance. LSL needed a single system that could hold all three together: multi-tenant flexibility, regulatory-grade environmental control and serialization built into daily execution rather than bolted on beside it.
The solution: Tecsys WMS, built for a regulated, multi-tenant operation
LSL runs its network on Tecsys WMS, delivered as a true SaaS platform built on Tecsys Elite™. The cloud-based deployment gives LSL a lightweight IT footprint: no servers or major network build-outs to manage, 24/7 support and continuous updates delivered with no disruption. With Itopia®, Tecsys Elite's low-code application capability, underpinning the platform, LSL can reconfigure workflows, data models and partner integrations to meet a specific manufacturer's storage or shipping requirements without modifying source code, all while staying on the latest version of the system. That flexibility matters in a shared-utility model, where every new customer can bring different requirements onto the same platform. Serialization data for DSCSA compliance is captured natively inside that same warehouse workflow, covered in detail below, rather than managed through a separate system.
Why Tecsys
Following extensive research among distribution management software providers, LSL selected Tecsys for its:
-
Deep experience in healthcare products distribution
-
Robust FDA-compliance feature set
-
Visibility technology for business intelligence and for lot and serial-number tracking
-
Cloud-based, open technology platform
-
Hosting capability backed by a solid support organization
-
Advanced 3PL functionality
The results: accuracy, compliance and room to grow
-
99.97% inventory accuracy. Sustained across a multi-site, temperature-controlled network serving multiple manufacturers at once, that accuracy is what lets LSL guarantee product integrity to healthcare customers who have no room for error.
-
A 99% fill rate. LSL delivers the right product, in the right condition, on time, on behalf of the manufacturers whose distribution it runs.
-
Visibility across the network. LSL and its customers can see inventory status in real time, across every facility and every stage of a product's journey.
-
Compliance embedded in execution. DSCSA serialization runs alongside core warehouse workflows instead of as a separate compliance exercise, with no added step for warehouse teams.
-
A platform that adapts. With Itopia underpinning Tecsys WMS, LSL can reconfigure workflows for a new manufacturer's requirements without code changes, and stay current without disruption.
A single integrated platform has also freed LSL from managing multiple IT vendors, letting the team focus on what it does best: nimble, compliant logistics services backed by deep healthcare expertise.
