Teamwork at Tecsys and a Culture of Community Service

Posted by: Adam Polka | September 28, 2021

It’s been nearly two years since we’ve gathered at the Tecsys offices, but the camaraderie and community-minded culture has not waned; rather, throughout tremendous expansion and evolution, it has proven infectious (poor choice of words?). And this year’s Pedal for Kids program is a perfect testament to this.

    Pedal for Kids

Yesterday, Tecsys employees hopped on a custom bike and rode through downtown Montreal to raise money for the Montreal Children’s Hospital through its annual Pedal for Kids fundraiser. Since 1999, employees from the Montreal office of Tecsys, an industry-leading supply chain management software company, have participated in the fundraising event. It has raised over $100,000 to date for the cause.

In years past, I’ve had the privilege of joining this crew — raising funds and cycling through the streets of Montreal — and what a heartwarming initiative it is. Pedal for Kids is a fundraising challenge for corporate and community teams that provides much-needed medical equipment, neonatal research and specialized training for nurse practitioners, all of which benefit the province’s sickest babies. It was created in 1991 by Sylvie Lalumière and Michael Conway in memory of their daughter Meagan, who had been treated at the facility.

“We are truly touched by the involvement of companies like Tecsys,” says Renée Vézina, president of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. “With over $100,000 raised from their very beginnings as a Pedal for Kids participant, Tecsys is a perfect fit for this event, which brings together hundreds of individuals, businesses and community groups for an exciting and lively tour around downtown Montreal, all with the common goal of helping sick children at The Montreal Children’s Hospital.”

    Tecsys Gives Back

Pedal for Kids has become an annual undertaking for Tecsys’ Montreal office, and we are proudly among other venerable participating companies.

“The Pedal for Kids fundraiser holds a special place in our hearts here at Tecsys, and has for over two decades,” says Patricia Barry, vice president of human resources at Tecsys. “The Montreal Children’s Hospital has been an essential institution for our youngest and most vulnerable, and we are proud to contribute to the important work they are doing. Indeed, we are humbled by the spirit of the kids receiving care, the compassion of their caregivers, and by the strength of the families whose loved ones need the services they provide. What an honour to be part of that kindness.”

Tecsys has grassroots initiatives such as Pedal for Kids well-ingrained into the DNA of employees. From Sun Youth and Operation: Santa Claus, to Dans la Rue and Youth Unlimited, the well-being of children has long been a focus for the company’s stalwart community efforts.

Peter Brereton, president and CEO of Tecsys, adds, “These community outreach efforts reflect the incredible integrity that the Tecsys team demonstrates so often. We applaud these employees for their initiative and will continue to encourage these generous and worthy undertakings.”
