Salesforce Commerce Cloud Cartridge for OMS Integration

    Salesforce Commerce Cloud Cartridge

Editor’s Note: This post was originally published in July 2017 and has been updated for freshness, accuracy and comprehensiveness.

The Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) Cartridge refers to the SFCC certification program. Having a certified cartridge means that an integration to a system, such as an order management system (OMS), has been tested thus confirming its compatibility with SFCC.

The cartridge is essentially a pre-built integration. For a retailer, that means it should take less time to integrate the e-commerce platform (ECP) to the certified vendor, since an integration to the system already exists. It should also lower the implementation fees, as the integration is accelerated.

    Salesforce Marketplace

Salesforce’s vendor marketplace enables a retailer to research and select among a list of best-of-breed solutions that can make up their Unified Commerce platform. It also allows vendors to spotlight their differentiators and value proposition to retailers, who have the option to choose from an assortment of solutions.

    Why Is SFCC Important?

Certified cartridges must provide seamless integration to Salesforce Commerce Cloud. However, it is easy for a vendor to neglect updating the cartridge. Over time, SFCC continually evolves and changes. As a retailer, you need to carefully review the cartridge certification dates and inquire about either re-certification or what the vendor has done to update their cartridge.

Tecsys (formerly OrderDynamics) has recently updated its certified Salesforce Commerce Cloud Cartridge. Online resources and the integration guide is available here.

    Experience Counts

After reviewing your order management vendor options, check out their integration experience. You will want to make sure your OMS vendor of choice has a depth of integration experience that ranges from enterprise solutions to best-of-breed vendors. Also, be sure to choose the vendor with an order management solution that is designed for omnichannel fulfillment and has experience in your segment of retail.

    Native SaaS Philosophy

When assessing your Salesforce Commerce Cloud connected order management system, make sure to look at the vendor’s native SaaS philosophy. If the specialized OMS provider has a native SaaS philosophy, you will hear about their agile development methodology, multiple yearly releases, automatic upgrades, and the continual evolution of their system and technology. Remember to also look for the best out-of-the-box order management system that will support your omnichannel strategy.
